Super friendly service, satisfying food, and plenty of it. We felt bad leaving so much on our plates, especially given how tasty it all was. Very reasonably priced for what you get. Loved the $3 glass of fresh mango juice, the flavorful chicken shwarma, and the lentil soup, brightened by fresh lemon. We'll be back!

Even though the waitstaff can't pronounce hummus right..... This is the best middle eastern restaurant in the area. Hands Down! Get the shish for 2.... you will be happy you did.

My favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in the Lansing area. The stew (I think it's spelled gullaya) is a must-try and the kebabs are excellent. The hummus and pita appetizer is huge and delicious. The dining area is very nice and relaxing.

Oh the guilt.....I cheated on my long time go-to Middle Eastern Restaurant (Woody's) with another Restaurant (Sultan's). Woody's, close your ears, you just shouldn't hear this. This place is good. The atmosphere was pretty nice, the service was decent and the food very good in my opinion. I tried their Hummus, Falafel Sandwich and also some baked Kibbe. All very good. My only question is...where is the traditional pita bread? They did bring a basket of some type of bread to the table but it was certainly not pita. The Hummus that came with my meal....no pita. Not sure if they just don't serve it or I needed to ask. I guess I must be a out of the loop, cuz I didnt know u needed to ask for pita at a Middle Eastern restaurant these days.........but anywho. The food was worth a another rendezvous with my new "on the side" restaurant, but I am gonna try to keep it on the DL for my long-time fav Woody's.

I'm not a huge fan of Sultans. The food, service, and overall dining experience all seem bland. It can be noted that they offer a wide variety of freshly squeezed juices, but that isn't enough to redeem this place in my eyes. The only thing that is impressive are the prices, and I mean that in a bad way. Overall, I don't reccomend sultans. Woodys oasis or saharas might provide you with an equivalant dining experience at a lower price.

In an area with generally lackluster options for Middle-Eastern food, Sultan's somehow reaches a new low. The food was quite flavorless, and the service was lacking. Specifically, fattoush was watery, with a puddle left on the bottom of the plate. Not a puddle of dressing, mind you, but of water. The dressing itself had no sumac, therefore missing the actual flavor of fattoush. I ordered a vegetarian combo which was described as including falafel patties and grape leaves (plural), but came with one of each, and roughly a tablespoon each of hummus and baba ganoush. It also had mujadara and borgul; both were unremarkable. We waited about 10 minutes after our food came for fresh pita bread, only to be told they decided not to make any more that evening. So, we were given bagged bread from the grocery store instead. Seriously. I left realizing why everyone has told me to avoid this place since I moved here. Now I'll know to pay more attention to their recommendations. Oops.

I rarely give places five stars, but Sultan's deserves it. The place inside is very nice and service is excellent. Ultimately, you come for the food. Excellent tasting middle eastern food is what you'll get. The plating isn't fancy or decorative, but the flavor of the food is what you come for and it's the flavor that makes you stop and eat more slowly to enjoy everything. The fattoush salad is really delicious. The dressing they use is vinegar tart, but sweet and salty. It really sets your pallet up for a delicious entree. I've tried their falafel, beef and lamb kabab, schwarma dishes, tongue, etc... I have not had a dish I didn't like. Sometimes I'll purposely not finish everything so I can have more later. I enjoy it that much.

I always enjoy my meal at Sultan's. The chicken schwarma is really good. When you get the REAL pita bread it is amazing, but usually they run out and have dry supermarket pita instead, which is disappointing. I really like the vegetable soup, too. The fattouch salad is very good. Hummus is only so/so. I have not had bad service here ever unlike previous reviews. The interior is always clean and the decor is nice. I have not tried the new Sultan's on albert Ave., not sure if it is an affiliate.

Sultan's was the first (and sofar best) restaurant my family and I went to after moving to Lansing a few months ago. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the beautiful decor and the cozy, friendly environment. After being seated you receive a complimentary basket of soft, aromatic freshly-baked bread. I am usually a sandwich person, I hardly ever get rice platters; but when I had the Sultan's Feast with my family I got hooked on it! It's a feast for the eyes and stomach. When it first arrives to your table you want to just grab a little bit of everything all at once and it's hard to decide what to eat first because it all looks so good and is presented beautifully. All the meats were grilled perfectly, not a single dry piece of meat. The food was more than enough for four adults and a child, and we ended up bringing leftovers home. The feast came with two salads as well: an incredibly flavorful fattoush salad (I'm picky about fattoush!) and tabbouleh. It also came with smooth, creamy hummus and smoky baba ghanouj, and pita bread of course! All in all, Sultan's has a great atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and most importantly, delicious food!

Came here to get some takeout with family, we're 4 foodies so naturally we ordered the sultan's feast for 4- when we went to pick it up we received two bags full of food and another HUGE foil tray of food. It was around $60, so $15 per person was pretty good. So this feast contained 2 salads, tabbouleh, hummus, baba ganoush, pitas, rice, chicken shawarma, grape leaves, kibble, falafel, and lots of kebabs. My favorite was definitely the shawarma. It was great! Not too dry. The falafels were the best I've ever eaten! And the hummus, baba ganoush, and salad were also delicious. Amazing middle eastern food!!!

In town visiting family, we ordered in from this place. What was picked-up was not what was described and the quality was extremely low. Ordered: Chickpea Modammas Sojok Baked Kibbe Plate - Supposed to come with Yogurt Salad and Grilled Vegetables Chicken Schwarma - With Salad Gallaya - With no mushrooms and soup Picked-Up: Chickpea Modammas - Okay Sojok - Left out of the bag entirely Baked Kibbe Plate - Dry & cold with no yogurt salad and no grilled vegetables. Just sliced raw tomato, parsley and a slice of green pepper was in the box and a regular salad was on the side Gallaya - Came with mushrooms, very dry Chicken Schwarma - Just not good Essentially, this place was horrible and I would never order from here again, nor would the locals who I am visiting. Apparently at one point it may have been good but that is no longer the case.

Very impressed! Really wasn't expecting anything wow but it turned out very wowful! Hummus, lentil soup, tabouleh, shish wrap and the combos, all were great and we all loved em. Didn't try the falafel though. Service was great. Place looks brand new! Decor is excellent and the place is spotless. Only buzzkill is it's a little expensive but you get what you pay for. Will return!

DO NOT COME HERE WITHIN AN HOUR OF CLOSING TIME. I usually don't like to give a poor rating after only one dining experience but I felt like I had to share my horrible meal with fellow yelpers. The sign on the door says the restaurant closes at 9 p.m. I even called at 8 to ask when they close and the hostess told me 8:45. I arrived by myself at the same time as a separate group of diners at 8:30, thinking we were well within the closing time. However, we were told or warned by the hostess that the kitchen was about to close. Still undeterred, I told them I would order quickly and get out before they would even remember I was ever there. I quickly ordered the kebab combo plate while I noticed the kitchen crew was cleaning up. My combo came with a soup or salad and I selected the lentil soup. It was quickly delivered by the server. The soup lacked salt and was rather bland. Still, I was hungry enough to eat all of the soup. The kebab combo was delivered rather quickly, maybe more quickly than it would take to grill the kebab. I don't know if I got some older pieces of kebab that had been grilled but all the pieces of meat (chicken, beef and lamb) were overcooked, hard and lukewarm. It's disappointing because the meat were all very flavorful. If only they were would have been cooked properly, it would have been a good dish. I asked for my check, paid and ran out of the restaurant as quickly as I was rushed in. Even if everything was perfect, I would still think this restaurant was average. I've eaten at some of the Middle Eastern restaurants in the Dearborn area and Sultan's would never be able to compete in that competitive area.

Dinner at Sultan's was a mixed bag. As other reviewers caution, they run out of the fresh made pita. Not only does the bagged pita look lackluster compared to the pillow-y fresh pita, but the bag they put in our basket had already been torn open. :( The interior looked much nicer than other Middle Eastern places in the area, but it's outdated. Food was acceptable, but not outstanding. On the recommendation of other Yelpers, I tried the falafel. I was lead astray. It was one of the least appealing falafels I've eaten: bland, save the strong taste of garlic, and rock hard after being fried too long. The garlic sauce was lukewarm and surprisingly flavorless. The rice was just meh, but the hummus and chicken schwarma were tasty. Serving sizes were comparable to similar places, but significantly more expensive. The most disappointing part of our visit was the service. After taking our order, our server only came back to deliver the check. Another server brought our food, minus an item that only arrived as we were almost finished eating. Our drinks were never refilled. While some of the food was alright, Sultans isn't worth the cost or mediocre service. I probably won't be back unless someone else insists.

After receiving a message from the manager (copied below), I would like to "update" my review. ESPECIALLY WITH THE INSANE # OF HEALTH VIOLATIONS REPORTED BY INGHAM COUNTY (read below before eating here!). Notably, and actually supporting my initial assessment, the manager fails to acknowledge my chief concerns. I might give points for an honest apology, but if anything, I include this for sheer entertainment value - my rating was (initially) unchanged. For example, an apology "for not being what you expected" glosses over what I deem as BASIC expectations of ANY restaurant. Specifically, there is no reference to the dismal slowness we experienced, the pitifully dry pita, the bland and soggy food, the tough lamb shank, the awkward seating and menu design, etc. Recall, I also asked what award did the "award-winning" hummus win... hmm? I find it odd that the biggest concern of his was given to juices (when I only mentioned smoothies); this mention reflected the bright red color of the mango smoothie - even with strawberries (which was not requested), the color was not right. Yet, if I was to return, these might be one item I would have felt safe ordering, even before this response. Manager's comment: "I just read your review on our restaurant . as the manager I would like to apologize for the bad service you had and apologize for not being what you expected. My main concern was your comment regarding the juice, All Of Our juices are 100% fresh, nothing added besides fresh fruit and vegetables and we have been known for that for over 16years.i apologized if that's how it seemed to you but I assure you that everything is 100%fresh."" Reprise: Mr. Manager, you fail to address the most critical issues of my review and instead waste words making additional claims, despite the original ones having gone undefended. I have returned to your establishment since the original review and, unfortunately, the experience has not been better. Honestly, I think you're lucky to get 2 stars, and that's primarily because I didn't get sick. Which made me think to look at your health department record (note: Google Ingham County Environmental Health for a search)... records for a fairly recent (last fall) inspection indicate 16 critical violations and 13 non-criticals. In their follow-up report, giving you time to correct such serious matters, you STILL had 8 criticals. In my opinion, a restaurant with more than one critical should be CLOSED. (Further note: Sultan's Express is equally shameful.) The misplaced response to legitimate concerns is obviously apparent in more aspects of your business than I imagined. Now that I have confirmed I will never return to Sultan's, you have actually earned my very rarely given one star award. There is no opportunity to regain my (or my comrades) business now.

Best middle eastern food in lansing, hands down. The sultans express are not as good as this original one. The only better food I have had is in Dearborn but this comes very close! Sultans feast has more food than you can possibly imagine!

We went to Sultan's while visiting our MSU student - wow! What a pleasant surprise! The tabbouli was a bit salty and the lentil soup a bit bland, but everything else was spot on! The lamb stuffed grape leaves were incredible, as were the lamb kabobs, shish kafta, and grilled chicken. Our server was attentive and delightful. We will definitely be back!

This is the first time I've ever been to Sultan's, despite growing up in this area. I became a huge fan of Middle Eastern food upon moving to Chicago, and I've had some great stuff there. Sultan's was perfectly fine and reasonably priced, but I wouldn't praise it beyond that. It's solid, tasty food, but I didn't find it special. I like the decor of the room, and it was easy to get a table at 7 pm on a Friday (unlike several other restaurants we tried....). Our waitress was incredibly friendly, and explained menu items very clearly. We began with soup and salad - Mom ordered the vegetable soup but received lentil, which I had ordered too. Soup wasn't as hot as I'd like, nor as strongly flavored, but I did enjoy dipping my bread in the soup bowl! Definitely tasted better with a bit o' bread. I had the chicken schwarma and hummus "lunch platter" but it was dinner time, so you pay $1.50 extra. The rice was soft and fluffy, and the hummus was pretty top-notch. The schwarma itself was perfectly fine - again, not terribly exciting, not too hot or juicy, but well-flavored. It almost tasted like there was bacon in it - I know that can't be, maybe it's just crispy chicken skin, but something in the schwarma was crispy and smoky-flavored. In a good way. I also had a fresh juice which was very nice - I think it was called "The Tropical Paradise?" I would probably try another Middle Eastern place in the city before returning here, but it was a nice place to go for a quick, satisfying meal.

Enjoyed the delicious food and friendly staff. Good service. Love all the vegetarian options like the Mudjadara and the almond rice salad. Fantastic. After 5 they have the fresly baked puffy pita bread and garlic butter. Wow- so great. The others enjoyed their Fattouch Salad, Grilled Vegetables, Falafel and other delicious entrees. Also enjoyed the freshly squeezed juices...I got the one with beet in it. Fresh and delicious. There are many Arabic restaurants in Lansing but this is the best one.

I have been eating at Sultan's for at least 5 years and have loved it every single time, even when they run out of bread at night. The time before this last time I was at Sultans, everything was great, which would have been during the summer. Recently, I went to Sultans with friends and they must have redone the menu and apparently the recipes. Everything I loved before (lentil soup, hot bread, hummus) tasted completely different, and not for the better. It appears as though they have started using some sort of frozen option for the bread because now it is all the same size and doesn't form a pocket properly, which wouldn't matter that much except the flavor is not as good either. The lentil soup, instead of being yellow, was greenish and bland. The hummus also was not as flavorful as it has been. The meat came over-cooked, the falafel was dry, maybe it was just the day, but I am going to have a hard time convincing my husband and friends to go back.

Got the family style. Shwarma was the only decent dish, rest were meh. Baklava was a bit dry for my taste. Was unimpressed with the hummus.

While attending MSU, this was my favorite place in E.L to eat. The service isn't the best which docks one star. Let's talk about the food- the bread, hummus, chicken schwarma, garlic spread, rice and fattoush are very very good!! I haven't been to Sultan's since a visit home in 2/12 and I hope the food hasn't deteriorated because it would be a damn shame. The decor is alright and the restaurant is pretty clean. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are plenty.

I went to Sultans after eating a few days before at Al Ameer in Dearborn, so I have something to compare Sultans to, and it's really sad. For about the same price at Al Ameer as I paid at Sultans, I got double the food, fresh pita, and exquisite food. At Sultans, the pita was grocery store origins, the grape leaves dry and tasteless, the rice not fully cooked, the taboule and hummus not made right, etc. The portion size was very small (three grape leaves, for example). My brother in law is from Lebanon and has often made me REAL Middle-Eastern food prepared with organic ingredients and skill, so I do know the difference, and Sultans is a fail. Sultans is good at marketing, and the employees are friendly, but they don't serve quality food!

One of my favorite restaurants ever. Fantastic middle eastern food. Try the Aleppo Kabab or one of the Gallayas. Really great hummus. And the fresh baked bread is to die for. I worked here in college and never got enough of the food. Every time I go back to the Lansing area, I stop here. Very authentic middle eastern restaurant with always-fresh, carefully prepared food.

This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in the East Lansing Area. It turned me on to baba ganoush and I can't live without it now. The food here is excellent and well prepared. I got to the point where I said "surprise me" and liked my meal. I highly recommend the chicken, it was excellent. The service here is always good, I have never been let down! I find the pricing to be reasonable and I even end up with leftovers.

I was part of a group of 18 people that had a reservation. I and everyone else at the table except for two people had the "feast". This is like a "family style" meal except they brought out 3 platters containing a sampling of their menu for all us to share and there were no refills on the platters. With the restaurant imposed 18% tip each person's bill came to just shy of $19. (not including drinks) The good: There was plenty of food. The server looked a bit overwhelmed but handled all of us ok including refilling drinks in a timely manner. Everything was clean and well decorated. I have eaten at quite a few Middle Eastern restaurants and this was right up there in the ambiance. The house salad, fattoush, hummus, baba ghanoush and tabbouleh were great. The bad: The stuffed grape leaves had a really weird taste. The spinach pockets had a different hot weird taste to them. Just not as bad as the grape leaves. I noticed from other reviews there were bread issues so I prepared myself. Yep, I experienced bread failure. If you have ever had FRESH pita bread you know what I mean. Fresh they're like little warm soft pillows of love. First basket he brought out was cold and tough to chew into. Next basket was piping hot but hard as a brick. But not burnt. That tells me they took some old stale ones and threw them in the microwave or oven. They knew about this reservation and the rest of the restaurant wasn't busy so there was no excuse not to have fresh bread. My advice is to stay away.

Fantastic "Middle Eastern" food (I assume there's probably a more precise label). The theme seems to be fresh, healthy and tasty. Entrees are not cheap but reasonable for what you get, and the "sandwiches" are actually a good deal. Stuffed grape leaves, baba ganoush, and ground lamb patties are some of my favorites from the extensive menu. Best hummus in the area - creamy and tasty. If in a group you can order one or more "platters" that let everybody sample a variety of things. The made from scratch smoothies are great. The pita is baked there, in an oven close to the cashier, it is not from a store. I've always had good service here, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Like most East Lansing area restaurants, though, you will look out onto a large parking lot.

First Middle Eastern food I have had the opportunity to eat in Michigan. I will have to say that it is pretty good here and I would definitely come back. On this trip, I ordered a pretty basic 'Lamb Lunch Combo', asked the the lamb medium rare. It was definitely good, but I would likely get a straight 'medium' next trip. Their hummus is pretty decent consistency and is comparable to what I am use to. All in all, this place deserves a 4-star, because 'Yay! I AM a fan!' If you're in the local area and would like to have some Middle Eastern food, this is a great option! Have a great day Yelp!

I used to love this place! The food is pretty good. The last time my husband and I stopped for lunch I got my usual. Few bites into my meal, I found hair in my rice. Black string of hair (definitely not mine since I don't have dark hair). Disgusting! I made sure to show it to our waiter, who said "Sorry"...and that's where it ended. He didn't offer to bring me a new meal but what's worse he ended up charging us the full price for my meal. I didn't want to make a fuss but just wanted to leave. Why we paid the full price on my meal is beyond (my fault I didn't ask him to remove charges for my hairy meal). Lesson learned! Won't be going back.

Excellent service, mediocre food. Was disappointed with the small menu; I must say that this is the first middle eastern restaurant that I've been to that didn't offer raw kibbe. Bread was good, but the garlic sauce was too grainy. The fattoush salad was tasty, just the right amount of dressing, and veggies were very fresh. However, the chicken shwarma was barely warm, and the chicken itself was dry. The worst part of the experience was that there were fruit flies flying everywhere - kind of takes away from the dining experience when you have to constantly swat at flies. Yuck! I have a feeling that there are better Mediterranean restaurants in East Lansing.

Just had one of the worst lunch experiences at Sultans, a place we frequent because its close to work. They were not busy on a Saturday lunch and had enough staff to cover all the tables, but the only times I saw the staff was when they were behind the counter looking something up on their phones! Very disappointing! Hope they get their stuff together by the time students come back or they will be screwed! I had to go ask for our bills because they were too busy to come check on any of the tables! The food overall is great here, most of the time, the new staff is disappointing!

Yum, Yum, Yum! I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to Middle Eastern Food. I lived only 15 min from Dearborn for a period of time and a good friend of mines Mom cooks some fabulous Middle Eastern food. Sultans definitely provided some savory shawarma, tangy salads, and spicy falafel. We ordered a couple salads, tabouli and fattoush, hummus and baba appetizer, crushed lentil soup, and the meal for two. All were fantastic. The four of us enjoyed a wide variety of foods and left feeling satisfied. The chicken shawarma was not as flavorful as others we've had but still very tasty. The grape leaves were pretty darn amazing and falafel was just a little spicy. I would definitely head back for my shawarma fix.

I miss Sultans. Nice casual sit-down restaurant and one of those pretty decent non-fast-food-like places within walking distance from MSU's campus. Every time I go back to East Lansing to visit I try and squeeze a trip here into my schedule. I love their bread, the entrees are always large enough to split or take home for leftovers, and the lentil soup is some of the best lentil soup I've had. Nothing has compared to their lentil soup since I've moved from east lansing! If I recall correctly, their smoothies were pretty darn good as well. Thick, tasty, not sugary, and blended right there, like a healthier jamba juice...

By far my favorite middle eastern restaurant in the greater Lansing area. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable when making recommendations from the menu selections. The service was prompt even though the restaurant was very busy the evening we were there. We ordered tabbouleh and fattoush salads, baba ganoush and hummus served with pita, crushed lentil soup and very tasteful, moist chicken shawarma and falafel. It was enough to share for the 4 of us and very flavorful. We finished up with walnut baklava that was also very good. I would definitely return again and would recommend it to others seeking a nice middle eastern selection of cuisine.

I used to go to Sultan's quite a bit as a student, used to be a fantastic place a few years ago! The last few times I've been there I was given the Woody's like pita bread in plastic which is fine because they run out of it once in a while, till I noticed the owner's friends were getting hooked up with the good stuff! They dont offer bread refills like they used to - not even the plastic wrap stuff, I haven't been given the choice between a salad or soup the last few times, my hummus appetizer got taken away before I was done - basically the service has become so-so. I think they valued their customers a lot more three or four years ago because now I'm getting a fast food experience without alcohol for $30 a pair. I'm one of those people who loves the local ma and pa places over the chains any day, so I'm disappointed in Sultan's more than anything else, but thankfully there's plenty of good Middle Eastern food in East Lansing - Woody's and Alladin's.

Thank goodness for Sultans, or there may be a complete lack of good Middle Eastern Food in LA (that's Lansing Area btw). Nothing against Saharas or Woodys, but I think Sultans is the place to rock out. Not quite as good as La Shish on the East Side (although no Al Qaeda links either), this place has a menu that encompasses a majority of your middle Eastern favorites. The ambience of this place is pretty nice too. Clean, bright, and not hole in the wall like (don't get me wrong, I love holes in the wall) what so ever. Servers are generally pretty friendly, and are knowledgable of the menu, so don't be afraid to ask what kafka or tabouli are. I've had better, but for the area, check it out.

Great middle eastern food that you will find in East Lansing. I went here with a friend for dinner. The restaurant is semi small, but don't be fooled. Their food is out of this world. I love the sampler plate that they do of Falafel and schwarma with a side of baba ganoush. So delicious! My one tip of advice is make sure you come here a bit early if you decide to go on the weekends, because they are a small restaurant and it can get crowded.

Looking for a relatively healthy, lip-smacking & inexpensive dinner? How about a panoply of fresh fruit juices and smoothies? All this and more are available at Sultan's in Hannah Plaza. To start-- their fresh baked bread is awesome and their homemade yellow lentil soup is fantastic. And the kibbi, kabobs, hummus and falafel are all great. They have a few platters for two, which include a hearty selection of their finest victuals. I recommend Sultan's hands down: great service, delicious food, and reasonable prices.

Disappointed. This was a place I used to enjoy getting carry out from until tonight. Incorrect order. As I review the transaction in my mind I realize that the staff that handled both my phone order and the pick up failed to recognize my questioning of their understanding of what I was ordering. I ordered the chicken shwarma combo for two. Right away I felt there was confusion when the order taker asked how I wanted it cooked. I questioned why they were asking given this was chicken. They acknowledged it was the chicken, but insisted they needed to know if I wanted it rare, medium, or well done. I said well considering it is chicken I assume medium would be best. When I arrived to pick up I was greeted by a young man you was very timid and mumbling when he spoke. I needed to ask him multiple times to repeat himself because I could not hear him. As I finally understood what price he was saying for my order I questioned the cost as it higher than it has been in the past. I asked if the chicken shwarma had gone up. He stated it had. Next I asked about my soups which he stated were in the bag, but something did not look right to me. However, despite my better judgement I gave them the benefit of doubt and left with my order. My mistake. When I arrived home I discovered I was given a entree with beef, lamb, and chicken. Also, there was only one soup. My wife will not touch lamb so there are issues right away. Bottom line I am disappointed. I recognize that I bear some responsibility for not checking my order before leaving. However, it is Friday night and the last thing I want to do is have to double check my order like I am at a fast food drive thru. I would just prefer to find restaurant that has a staff that knows what they are doing or at least are aware enough to recognize there is an issue when customers are questioning the situation. Given they were not very busy for a Friday you would think something like this would have been caught, but this maybe why they are not that busy. There are entire reality tv shows based on past successful restaurants that lose their customer base and fail. Poor customer service due to poor staff communication is usually the biggest contributing factor. I guess I am looking for new middle eastern restaurant on the east side.

Best Mediterranean in East Lansing. The chicken shwarma, tabbouli and falafel beats Woody's, Aladdin's and Bell's EASILY. The menu is moderately priced and I've never had an issue with ordering.

I tried the falafels... WOW! I love falafel, I know what good falafel tastes like, and this is really great stuff! The tabouleh tasted much better this time, very much to my liking with more lime juice so it had a tangy, sour flavor. The hummus remains amazing and delicious. The service is a bit spotty depending on when you go but Sultan's is definitely a 4!

I want to give this place 5 stars but I can't, because I can't seem to enjoy Mediterranean food as much as I want to. Otherwise, the service was excellent, the interior is beautiful and very clean, and the presentation was good. The fresh juices are delicious and the food seems to be very appetizing but I think my potential to enjoy Meditteranean food is just low on the scale. I've given it multiple tries, and I love certain Greek and Lebanese foods, but I can't come around for some reason. Anyway, I will continue to try to increase my palate for Mediterranean, and when I do, it will be at Sultan's.

I will not be returning to Sultans anytime soon. I decided to go there in anticipation of great Middle Eastern shawarma. I ordered a lamb shawarma with hummus dinner and was extremely disappointed by my whole experience. 1. When I order shawarma I actually would like the meat to have shawarma spice on it. Lamb was edible but NOT shawarma. 2. If I ask for tomato sauce for the bread, don't bring me something that's been pre-made in the back of the fridge. 3. Asked for garlic sauce and it seemed old and watered-down. 4. Seemed like hummus had little 'taste.' 5. Poor service, but there was only one server in the restaurant. Bottom line: I will not return and would suggest trying Woody's (haven't been there) before going to Sultans. Suggestion: If you've seen Kitchen Nightmares, Chef Ramsey needs to pay Sultans a visit.

Sultan's has literally the best falafel I have had in my life, ever. I live in DC now, but I always try to make a stop at Sultan's when I'm back in town visiting. All the food is very good - my favorites were the falafel, hummus and tabbouleh, moujadara, and the burghul. The atmosphere was pretty nice, and it was never too crowded or loud. The staff is always extremely friendly and the wait time for your food is minimal. I definitely wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood now - I used to be able to walk to Sultan's, so I got very spoiled with great Middle Eastern food within a ten minute walk!

In a city that seemingly has nothing but big chain restaurants, this is a little diamond in the rough. Doesn't look like much from the outside, I usually don't think much of places in strip malls. But it is a solid middle-eastern cuisine and gives you bang for your buck. The menu is kind of divided in half, one half of it seems more Americanized and the other half is a lot more traditional. My girlfriend likes the traditional side of it, and I've tried some of the dishes and I like them, but they are usually a little too vegetarian for me so I lean to the Americanized side. I like the deboned chicken the best, it comes with a great garlic dipping sauce, a few grilled vegetables and a side of rice. They give you a really nice salad to start, with a delicious vinegar based dressing. Lamb kabobs are solid too. Everything is around the $10-$12 price range, and it is usually plenty of food for me. I've only had one thing here I didn't like, on the menu it sounded like it was some kind of Middle-Eastern stir fry with shrimp. But it was more soup like and the shrimp were small and not very good. I guess that would dissuade me from ordering any other shrimp items on the menu but that is about the only thing I have to gripe about and I've been here many times. Worth a shot to go here, its one of the better restaurants I've found since I've been in Lansing.

I'm generally skeptical of restaurants in strip malls, but if you have the same irrational fears that I do, don't let it deter you from dining at Sultans. The decor isn't exactly impressive, but I forgot that we were in said strip mall right away. The service was speedy as we had our appetizers 60 seconds after we ordered. The bread was to die for and while the difference between the three types of chicken in my chicken combo were subtle, they were at least tasty. I'm a fan of middle eastern places that don't serve booze (ironically) because I'm always amazed at how small the bill is when its time to pay, so I will definitely return to Sultans.

I love Middle Eastern food -- especially the fact that it's an umbrella cuisine -- it branches off into categories like Lebanese, Jordanian, Israeli, Persian, and Syrian. Sultan's is mostly Syrian food and it is absolutely delicious. I went here on Sweetest Day with my boyfriend and was excited to see what they had to offer. The mujadara, my favorite dish at Middle Eastern restaurants, was excellent. The only issue I had with this restaurant was that on weekends they do not serve sandwiches. Although I was forced to order the entree, it wasn't much more expensive than a sandwich would have been, and it was accompanied by tabouleh and hummus. Additionally, they gave me the whipped garlic sauce for no extra charge! Also, their yogurt salads are mouth-watering. Warning: the garlic taste in of the garlic sauce will not leave your mouth for a long time, even after multiple swigs of mouthwash.

I miss Sultan's dearly. Their falafel is the best in Lansing. Really, there is no other choice when it comes to good, quality Mid-east food in Lansing. There are other restaurants but they cannot hold a candle to Sultans. If I ever come back for a visit, this would be the first place I'd go for lunch.

Great hummus and pita! The pita was served piping and the hummus was creamy and delicious. The rest of the food was very good too, but the hummus and pita were exceptional.

We were eating on Company money so we wanted to try several thing from the menu. However, the humus was so so. The lentil soup was okay, but the lamb was awful. It smelled like a real lamb in the wilderness. I eat lamb at least once a week and I am not afraid of lamb like other people who thinks it tastes gammie. Even the rice was nothing to write about. Most middle eastern place make excellent rice, and even if you do not like other stuff on the menu, one can just fill up on rice. Even the Bakalva and the other sweets were pretty ordinary. Then I have lived on East Coast's major cities for many years and my expectation for middle eastern food is little high. My husband eat their chicken shwarma for lunch most day at Sultan's Express in downtown and he thinks it is good. All they have to do is soak the lamb in yougurt and that will take away that awful smell. That's all! Service was prompt and good.

I made my way back to Sultan's the other evening and was very disappointed that they have discontinued making the spicy hot sauce that used to be made in-house. If you ask for hot sauce, they throw some generic bottle of hot sauce at you. Totally changes my meal, and therefore I am taking away that fifth star.

I've never actually been in Sultans, but my friend always brings us huge platters of food from here and it's always incredible. The meat is tender and spicy, the hummus is great and the salads are very flavorful, especially the fattoush! I'm sure it's not the best middle eastern food in the world, but on a relative scale compared to what's available in the area, this is an easy 5.
